Beautiful Senegal, home of friendly people and enduring culture. I visited two places in Dakar in November 2024 in addition to walking around the central city. These photos take you there as follows.
1. Dakar city downtown – Starting at a roundabout near the port and train station, then walking through the streets of the main downtown area called the Plateau. The train station was built by the French who ruled Senegal from the 1600s to 1960.
2. The Museum of Black Civilisations – A big new museum located near the port with collections of early man and African art, with photos of some of the beautiful masks and sculpture displayed there.
3. Goree Island – The sad location of a former depot for enslaved people located a mile off Dakar port. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a museum (in the red house).
4. Back to Dakar – on a quiet Sunday when businesses are closed.
